Sweet Valentine

I love this boy of mine. And I love this little tradition that we’ve made….just momma & Ezra….Valentines photos!

This is the third consecutive year that my friend Lindsey and I have rounded up our boys and have been intentional about getting in front of the camera….with our little loves.

The goal is to always keep it simple, otherwise it becomes too much like work. We always shoot against a white wall and we hang a simple garland of some sort [usually found at Target]. This year we borrowed an adorable handmade garland from our favorite local boutique, Harlow.

I can’t encourage you mommas [and dads] to get in photos with your kids! You’ll never regret it….and it’s so much fun to look back at little sweet moments with our quickly growing toddlers. I love that Lindsey is committed to this as much as I am….we both send out our texts to each other towards the end of January to start tossing around ideas for the Valentines shoot. So, get with a friend…..and make it a thing!

Our first Valentines shoot can be found here …..and last years photos are here!

The goal is to get one photo that we love…..our time frame is about 10-15 minutes max. We don’t want our kids to come to hate this tradition….so we keep it simple on all fronts and always have a few treats on hand. HA!

Do any of you have fun traditions?! Let me know and share your links!

x’s & o’s, KELLI

Christmas Morning

IMG_0947

We spent a lot of time at grandmas and grandpas this Christmas. It was so fun to all be under one roof and spend as much time with Aunt Haley and Uncle Ty. However, it’s so important to Reed and I that we carve out and protect Christmas morning at our own house and celebrate as a family.

A new tradition for us is CHRISTMAS PAJAMAS!!!! Or “Christmas Jammies” as Ezra would call it. I didn’t have this tradition growing, but I love it and think its oh so cute!

Ezra understood “presents” more than ever this year, but after opening two…he was completely distracted. Trains, of course! He also got a little drum set, but after playing with real drums at church…he wasn’t quite sure what to do with these ones. HA!

We [surprisingly] didn’t go over board with presents this year……honestly, we just wanted to keep the main thing, the main thing. Nothing was more precious than hearing Ezra point towards Heaven and say HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JESUS!

Here’s a glimpse into our family Christmas morning…

Christmas Eve

IMG_0616
I’ll never get over a white Christmas. It’s my favorite. Ever.

Our tradition is to spend Christmas Eve with Reeds parents and Christmas Day at our house….our tribe of three.

This year was super fun….at one point we had both of Reeds sisters in town, along with their husbands, whom I love with all my heart. Ezra loves his aunties and uncles oh so much. Its always a good time.

Ezra was all about sitting like a big boy, which meant not in his booster seat. He also ate all the big people food like goat cheese, brie and crackers! At one point, we all looked over and he had an entire block of cheese in his hands and mouth! Silly boy. And the huckleberry pie…was an obvious favorite.

We spent many nights over at the in-laws house, mainly because we had pretty intense card games going on late night…so it was just easier to put Ezra to bed and continue our game playing.

This was my first year in a long while that I was not singing for any Christmas services. Although it was bitter-sweet, I enjoyed all the family time that I had this year. It was nice to be around…help in the kitchen….and just be with family.

Presents weren’t flowing like years past, which is a good thing [I mean, a few trains will keep our little man busy for days!]. Its important to Reed and I to keep the main thing- the main thing. We want to point Ezra to Jesus and a big part of that is keeping Christmas focused on the birth of our Savior.

It was a really great Christmas season….this year was really sweet to experience the holidays through Ezras eyes. He loved the Christmas tree and lights- and asked to plug them in every morning. He was caught red handed….trying to open a present a few days before Christmas. Too funny.

We had a lot of family time….and Great-Gramdma even wrote the family a great poem [which inspired a poem writing/reading for next year!].

So blessed to be walking out motherhood….these days are so sweet.

Our Christmas Eve best

Since we were all dressed in our Christmas Eve best….why not go out on to the gravel road and take a bunch of photos?! Thats exactly what we did, before we lost the day light. So glad we did.

We love aunt Haley and uncle Ty so much!

One of my most favorite Christmas traditions…

IMG_1394IMG_1395

This is our third year as a family of three…..to make a Christmas ornament for our tree.  I love this tradition and I look forward to it every year.

The first two years were really momma & daddy projects- Reed held Ezra tight and still, while I painted his hand and pressed it against the cold white round ornament shaped ceramic piece. There were tears both times. Ezra was not a fan. Oh, but how we LOVE these ornaments now!

This year, we let Ezra pick out his ornament…..and we were so not surprised when he picked “Olaf” [the snowman].

As much as I wanted to help….and paint the black hat and buttons and such…..this was Ezra’s work of art and he did exactly what he wanted. And you know what?!?! I love how it turned out. It’s perfect.

What Christmas traditions do you have with your family??! Next year I’d like to do an Advent activity for sure. Do any of you have any recommendations?
