California Adventure

June was a whirlwind.

Last month was full of new adventures. We traveled as a family to Southern California so I could photograph our Pastor, Levi Lusko and the O2 Experience Tour that took place at Harvest Riverside, Harvest Orange County and Calvary Chapel San Jose. Ezra did great on the flights- he met a few friends along the way. As always, I wouldn’t be able to shoot events like this without Reed- he’s a huge help to me…I could not do this without him.

Ezra got to see aunt Kris again and meet his cousin Brandon for the first time! He also got to meet the Barton family- loved seeing their faces again! I’m thankful that even though our families are spread out….Ezra has had the opportunity to spend time with family in his first year. We spent the last few days of our trip with my aunt & uncle [Dirk & Lauren] in Northern California.

There’s no hiding the fact that we love coffee [and donuts]. We enjoyed visiting Sidecar Doughnuts and Handsome Coffee Roasters….we enjoyed our experience at both. This was part of Reeds Fathers Day celebration, along with some time on the water.

We soaked in this time away….the summertime is our crazy season at the shop. This was a nice little break for us. A perfect balance of work & play. Such a blessing.

Life, Liberty & Cold Brew

Our staff…..is amazing. We truly are blessed to have such a solid team at our cafe. I love how passionate they are about people, fashion….and coffee, of course.

We never mentioned a word about dressing up for their 4th of July shift……but I was stoked to see each of them arrive in their holiday flair. I had my camera on hand and just had to pull them away to do a little shoot around the corner! How cute are they?!?

Michelle - what great style! If I’m ever in your town I will definitely make a stop to the cafe. I would just need to go in to see what the staff is wearing for the day!

Our Sparkler Weekend

I have always loved the 4th of July. I love this time of year with family and friends….and look forward to it every year. This year was really special for us because we got to experience our first 4th of July as a family- with Ezra! The weather is perfection right now…so we pretty much try and spend as much time outside as possible.

We kicked off our 4th at the lake so we packed up our towels, umbrella and cooler…and our adventure began! We actually did the same thing last year, but I was suuuper pregnant and felt like everyone was staring at me. It was fun to have our sweet baby boy along with us this time around. Ezra loves the sand….he played forever and had us laughing so much. Oh how I love him. Such a sweet spirit.

We ended our night with dear friends who invited us up to their place for some pool time and a BBQ! Ezra experienced corn on the cob for the very first time- so American! A perfect way to celebrate your first 4th of July, right?!

All in all…we had a fantastic 4th of July weekend! Hope you all did too!

July Desktop Download

Another month has snuck up on me! June was whirlwind…..and July has started off with a BANG!

This months download entailed a 6:30am call time for Ashley and I because we wanted to catch something in the early morning light. We actually had another idea for the photograph, but it didn’t turn out as planned…..we didn’t know it at the time, but my gut was telling me to shoot another scene on the way home from our location.

I ended up driving to Les Mason Park, which is the lake next to my house…..I was the only one there that early and it was oh so refreshing. Don’t you just love the word REFRESH? This is what kept coming to mind for this months desktop. The summertime can keep us all busy, but its so important to stop-be in the moment-and enjoy where we are at. For me, when I’m pulled in every direction possible- my life is anything but refreshing.

A friend of mine sent me an awesome text last week- we were talking about how busy we felt and how we were “running around with our heads cut off.” Her reply was simple- to the point- powerful.

I love that throughout the New Testament it says, ‘And Jesus walked.’ He never rushed or ran….I have to remind myself of this more than I care to admit.”

Especially in this season with Ezra- as he is growing quickly before my eyes….I want to be present. I want to be all in. I want to soak in the little moments. There are things that I need to say NO to- so I can care for my family. My family is my treasure- precious cargo.

If you’re a stay at home mom [or dad]- be ALL THERE! What an honor it is to raise up your own children. If you work a 9am-5pm that you’re not crazy about….work it out and until a change comes your way, work in excellence! Late night hangout with friends? Who cares what other people are doing Instagram! Be engaged- get in the lives of those AROUND YOU!

I get it- we are creatives- we want to do it all! I challenge you this month…..to take on less so you can do more, and more importantly….BE ALL THERE! Leave distractions behind. Have dinner outside with family &/or friends and leave your phone inside! Draw a hopscotch game on your sidewalk with chalk…and play like a kid again! I dare you…..I doubt you’ll regret it.

Enjoy this months desktop & wallpaper. I pray that this encourages you all month long….

My Baby Is ONE

This year has gone by extremely fast…..every mother, including my own, warned me about this. It’s almost impossible to fully understand this until you walk through it yourself. And goodness….this first year of Ezras life has flown by.

A friend of mine from Nashville emailed me during the first week of Ezra’s life [sorry Dena….I owe you a reply]. Yep, and just like that…..I became really bad at replying back to emails and text messages. Her email was so powerful….there hasn’t been a day that passes by that I don’t think of a point that she mentioned.

“THE DAYS ARE LONG, BUT THE YEARS ARE SHORT.”

This resonated with my soul in such a deep way. It still does.

One this eve of Ezra’s 1st birthday, I can’t help but replay the moments leading up to his birth. My water broke on the 4th of July [you know that firecracker post from a few days ago….yea, thats what set it all off!], but nothing progressed. We went to the hospital, where my sweet friend Carrie met me….and we stayed up all night talking….as Reed got a bit of sleep on the window couch/bed thing. I don’t regret talking all night long, but I could have used a bit more energy 36 hours later….when Ezra decided to make his debut! Full birth story here.

MOTHERHOOD. It’s the best thing that has ever happened to me. So much has happened in just one year. I remember the first few weeks vividly, but at some point they become a blur. I remember the late nights with a crying baby and not quite sure what to do. I was never great at swaddling….he ended up looking more like a messy burrito. I remember feeling overwhelmed by how many times a day I would nurse this baby of mine…..I started to keep a feeding log one day and I was nursing up to 14 times a day! I stopped logging this information- it was obvious that my son ate all day long.

God is so good. He walked me through my valley of fear. I never thought I could go through a pregnancy, let alone labor and delivery. He met me at every step of the way….He was there. He is real.

We definitely had some long days…and some long nights, but Reed and I both agree that this year has flashed before out eyes. How is it possible that our sweet baby boy is ONE already?

As I laid Ezra down tonight, I sat on the floor next to his crib…I put my hands on him and just let love and praise flow freely from my lips. Ezra is a gift. Ezra belongs to the Lord. Reed and I have been given the honor and the opportunity to raise this little arrow up….to teach, to love, to lead. To show him Jesus. To direct him to the target- towards Heaven. What a huge responsibility! We don’t take this lightly.

Sweet Ezra, we’ve enjoyed documenting your first year of life. All of your milestones are so special to write about. You bring so much JOY to our life….and you have helped shaped me into a better person. We pray for you daily. You are loved. As much as you make our hearts burst at the seams….our Heavenly Father loves you with a greater love. You are a perfect gift. You were created for a purpose and mighty things are in store for your life. As your name means “Gods Help”….we believe that for your life. You are already a lover of people, who makes even the grumpiest of men- crack a smile. We love you, sweet little one. Happy Birthday!

xoxo,
momma & daddy

Carrie Rowe - Oh how I love that sweet boy! Such an honor to be with you during that sleepless night and yes, looking back we should have let you attempt to sleep. I can’t believe he’s already 1, he’s a sweet boy and I adore him and I LOVE the Trontel tribe!!!!
